Quicktime -> VCD, Can it be done?

I'm curious if I can somehow get quicktime videos onto my TV. I can deal with normal formats like mpeg, avis (various codecs), but quicktime? No clue. I did a little searching and didn't find much for non-mac platforms. If there's a viable mac solution I may even be able to set that up through a friend down the street from me who has a power book.

I want to get video out of quicktime format or from quicktime to something that'l play on my DVD player. A bunch of the movies I get from gamespot are in quicktime (although my default choice is mpeg or divx) and I want to experiment.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Obviously converting it to mpeg would allow me to go VCD...but how do I do that? snapping my fingers? :) A link to an app that does that would be peachy.

  • Open media in quicktime player, save as quicktime movie if stream
  • Open quicktime movie with quicktime player and choose export, choose AVI and off you go
I am not sure if the free player has the export option, I will take a look on my other machine and get back

EDIT: You do need the pro version to have import/export options

Thanks for all the input, guys. It turns out diego's link to dvdrhelp found me a tutorial stating you can use tmpgenc + a quicktime reader. I'm encoding a .mov to mpeg as we speak, all for free! Looks like tmpgenc mpeg support is trial-based, but it should give me enough time to see if I warrant it nifty enough to continue.
