QUICK!!! What are 2 different meanings to romance in literature?

MaxDSP

Lifer
I need to explain the 2 types of romances that are found in The great Gatsby. Are Tragic romances and Non-Tragic romances the 2 different meanings or is it something else?

I dont need any help with the book itself, I just need to know what the prof is talking about when he asks:

"There are two different meanings to romance in literature. Explain both and tell how in both senses The great Gatsby is a romantic tale."

So what Im asking, is "Tragic" and "Non-Tragic" the 2 different meanings he is talking about?

The professor prolly isn't just asking for one answer, I'm sure if you wrote a good enough essay you could play it however you wanted...
Tragic and Non-Tragic would be a start, but then a lot of research as to what exactly qualifies as tragic...

There are some good books on what tragedy in modern drama is, etc...
