Quickly ... I tried to search for it and I found a lot of sites that help to install linux, but none really told me why I should over win2k.

Thanks!! I'm sure this is a repost, so sorry... but I couldn't find the original post :)

Frankly, if you need to ask, Linux is probabaly not for you.

To me, I get all the tools I need, such as SSH, compilers and IDE's, misc networking tools, good choice of UI's for X.

There's simply much more freedom and control.

Sucks for games though, so I still need 2K/XP around :)

Simple problem: You have to set up web server, mail server and file server for the company.

Solution 1.

Windows 2000 (you need server edition for Exchange). Exchage 2000. Active Directory.

Try to approximate how much it would cost you (Exchange is BIG bucks) and how long it will take you to make it running properly (install all security patches, service packs etc, make active directory working).

Solution 2.
Linux.

Cost - $0. Very easy and fast to setup. Much better performance. Better security. Better customization.

You choose.

ps. I don't think Linux will be popular desktop os anytime soon (in fact - what for?), but it is great for servers.
