Quick USB external HD question.

Is there any sacrifice of speed involved in routing my external USB hard drive though the USB hub of my 2405FPW vs. connecting it directly to a mobo input?

 
The main advantage of a hub is that it can be powered and not draw on your power supply - that is a USB Achilles heel. There is no perceptible difference in speed.

But, in the case of an external HDD, they are usually self powered, and that makes the point moot.

Connect it both ways and time a real function and compare.
 
One thing to consider with the monitor. At least with the 2407, if you power the monitor off, your USB devices unmount too.
