Quick Temp Check Plz

I just upgraded from a:
PII 450MHz in a MicroATX mobo/case with 256MB SDRAM
to a:
AthlonXP 1700+, EPoX 8KHA+, 512MB PC2100 DDR

So i need someone to gimme a quick check on my cpu temp to make sure i'm on the right track here...

I have a SVC GoldenGate/Delta 35CFM HSF combined w/ some Arctic Silver II paste.
Result: ~ 39C on full load

nobody will ever (almost 99% of the time) have the same setup as you.... mobo, cpu, case, fans, hsf, ambient temp, etc...

but as for what you have there.... 39C on load sounds good... enjoy 🙂

hey jza,

your temp doesn't look too bad to me. i'm using the svc gc68 rite now on my tbird 1.4, and getting an idle of 39. i am using a much lower cfm fan tho. my load is about 43 or 44.

Speaking of temperatures, I have seen several mentions of United Devices Cancer Research Screen Saver and Seti@home. Are these good to test "load" temperatures?

Yes, things like UD and Seti@home are very godd things to test full load temperatures.

They're also very good things to test the stability of your computer, because, especially with Seti, they make the CPU run as it should (at 100% load), and it also tests your memory.

Those temperatures seem OK, but you can only compare to people with the same motherboard, as each type of motherboard will give a different temperature reading. BTW, that rig will totally rock @ Seti, you'll be looking at about 3.5hr Work Units (for comparison my Athlon 1.0 @ 1.47 (147*10) does a Work Unit in about 5hrs)

Well, just FYI, Seti@home, UD, etc, do not max load your CPU.... there's different levels of "full load" per say... If you're looking for a pure CPU heater, then they don't get better (commercially available 🙂) than CPUBurn and Toast. If you're looking for an overall good system tester, you really can't go wrong with Prime95/Seti....

Most temps I see for air-cooled heatsinks like Alpha 8045 and the Swiftechs seem to be low-to-mid-30s for cpu idle and low 40s for cpu-loaded.

Those are also my temps for Alpha 8045U/XP1600@148MHz FSB - in Antec 1030 case.

I'm not familiar with the heatsink/fan you have, but it's either a very effective cooler or your temp monitor reads a few degrees low. Most have to use water cooling to get cpu-loaded temps in the 30s.
