After developing a mobile-friendly interface for these forums as well as for the InternetTabletTalk Forums, I was wondering if I might make a little change on the side by offering interfaces of this nature to anyone who wanted use of it for their own forums.

I'd probably charge a flat fee for a year's service and host it all myself so the purchaser of the service didn't have to worry about bandwidth costs on top of that $15 a year. This would work out well for me as well, as it'd let me keep the code to myself and thus secure (not that it's very complicated).

The obvious issue is whether there's a market for this type of service - probably not, but who knows. Would any of you go for something like this?

I wouldn't. I don't own a mobile device that would make use of it. If I did, I'd only use the service if it was free.

Hmm. I wonder if an ad-supported system would be the way to go then.

ditto

edit: actually, i have a mobile web device... i just dont pay for the service, and wouldnt use it unless verizon suddenly felt the urge to give it to me free on my account. if they did and i had access, id use it all the time out of boredom in long lines and stuff.

I wouldn't pay for a service like that.

I think you're going about it incorrectly. Go after the websites that haven't developed a mobile interface. You could charge them for your work.

It sounds like that's what he's proposing. At least, the hosting part of it made it sound that way.

Everyone is misunderstanding. He wants to charge the site owner, not users. I think there could definitely be a market for it, given the recent love for Smart Phones and web-enabled PDAs. $15 isn't going to be enough to make money off of it, but if you just want to add it to your resume, that works great.
