does each share counts as one trade?

if i buy 100 shares of IBM, does it count as 100 trades?

so if i buy 50 shares of ibm, 25 shares of apple and 100 shares of DRYS all in one order.

it's 3 trades?

One trade per stock symbol not # shares, but you really should buy and hold an S&P 500 ETF instead.

Don't most places charge something like 5.95 or more per trade (I think that's even a low number). A lot of stocks are below that per share, why would someone pay more per trade than the actual stock is selling for?

iShares MSCI South Africa Index ? EZA

I think the question has been answered. A word of advice, I dunno if you're jumping into the market right now, but you sound like you need a LOT more experience. Read up until you think you have enough experience....and then paper trade with fake money for 6 months before you even THINK of trading for real. Best advice I can give

It's way too late for bonds, and a 25-stock fund is a little too narrow for my tastes. How about:

EFA - iShares MSCI EAFE Index Fund (Europe, Australasia and the Far East)
EEM - iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Indx
