Very unlikely. The new CPUs/mobos may arrive during the course of that week or towards the end of June.

Lets hope AMD get this cleared up soon so that the prices can start to come down. I wonder if the release of Windows 64 will send the prices back up through the roof again? Or start to bring the prices down to bring 64bit computing to the masses....that sounds more likely

Now....i need to earn some cash in time for june...

I think AMD has gotten to the point where they're going to start behaving like Intel when it had no real competition. Yeah, I think the market wants us to start moving to 64-bit, it's the next natural step. But the transition isn't going to be easy for a LOT of people. If it isn't choreagraphed just right we could have dueling platforms for a long time.

Well if I can't get a S939 processor in early June, I might just screw it and get a 754. I've been waiting forever to upgrade from this 2-yr. old HP peice of sh*t. Any suggestions, and would I have to pay for Windows XP again if later I upgraded from 754 to a S939 mobo and processor?

people aren't going to go out to buy new machines just because 64 bit cpus are out.. Most people probably don't even know the difference. It's going to take probably 5 years until 75% of the cpus out there are 64 bits..

I agree, though I think maybe 2-3 years is more likely. Of course, if the software companies stop making all 32-bit software, they could force everyone who owns a computer to go 64-bit pretty quickly.

Or they'd go out of business because no one would buy a new machine to fart around with the new software. Instead, everyone would just run their current software on their existing machines.

Only the extremely nerdy (like us) would bother getting a new machine just for one piece of software (Like Doom 3)

Can anyone tell me the clock speeds of the 3500. 3700, 3800 939'S ?

3500+ should be 2.2GHz, 3800+ should be 2.4GHz (these two are for Socket 939). The 3700+ should be a Socket 754 CPU and is also going to run at 2.4GHz.

Hi I was just wondering if anyone knows how the dual channel memory controller on the S939 A64 CPU's will affect the optimal RAM setup. If I was to buy a pair of say DDR500 RAM would it be better to put 512MB on each controller on to put 2 of them as a pair on the one controller like in the 754 boards. Alternatively would it be better to get 2 pairs of 256MB and use the 4 slots on the new mobo's instead of just geting a single pair of 512MB?

it is one dual channel controller not two controllers first of all. and you will want to put yoru two 512's on separate channels in order to actually run the dual channel. theoretically getting four 256's would be faster because they can run tighter timings but the two 512's advantage of future upgradability far far outwieghs any difference at all.

If it's only 1 dual-channel controller how does that differ from the dual-channel support advertised for nForce2 Ultra 400 motherboards? I thought you could effectively do on both sets of RAM banks with the new CPU's/socket what you can only do with one set on the current nForce2 boards.

So I take it your saying the best place would be to put RAM is say slots 1 & 3 assuming 1&2 and 3&4 are grouped together.

I would recomend not upgrading to what is now stae of the art till christmas. I knwo it is a long time off but by the christmas season the x800pro and XT should be in full circulation, the 6800's should be out and the 939's will have had enough time to make them worth their prices that will have dropped by atleast 15% by then.
