quick review on the 2.53Ghz mbp

pros:

-first and foremost, this superdrive actually effing works!
-MUCH better build quality, feels sturdy and doesnt seem like it'll break
-got used to the keyboard and actually prefer it to the older mbp style
-trackpad is amazing (the multi touch gestures are very useful)
-replacing the hard drive is 100000x easier to do, and officially doesnt void the warranty
-9400m is pretty damn good for an integrated gpu
-the speakers are SO much better than the previous mbp, and to my surprise, it seems like apple finally fixed the static/hissy noise issue with the headphone jack!

cons:

-glarebook pro ftl (i just bought a matte screen film for it)
-there is some buzzing noise near the front of the computer (where the battery/hd are)...it happens randomly and its a faint noise too
-have to buy firewire 800 to firewire 400 (6 and 4 pin) conversion cables = annoying
-have to buy displayport to hdmi and dvi cables = annoying
-would have liked to see a 1680x1050 option
-sometimes the trackpad will do things you didnt want it to do (decrease font size in safari, drag a window, etc)
-for everyone else, $500 for the "high end" mbp gives you a bigger hd, 130mhz more, and 2GB more of ram...that definitely doesnt cost $500
-the anti-glare option NEEDS to come to the 15" models, and not be reserved for the "highest end customers" on the 17" mbp.

im sure apple cut out/left out some features on purpose and thats okay, because this mbp, quite honestly, is the best mbp that apple has ever made.

if you guys need to know anything else about the machine, feel free to ask! 🙂

the "high end" MBP is $500 you say? I'm in for 2 LOL.

I wish I could afford one, and I wish you really meant $500 and not $500 more *siiiigh* I can dream.

haha my bad! i forgot to say that apple graciously replaced my mbp with the current gen mbp. i cant believe they went out of their way to do that. freaking AMAZING customer service!

Well, I think after what was it, 4 failed superdrives that they almost have to give you a new system... and if they don't have any of the older models left...

Yup! Congrats.. I've heard of them doing this for other people, and it's the main reason why I grabbed AppleCare. Not only do I like the service, but I have the chance of getting a brand new machine if it fails too many times.. 🙂

I should have gotten AppleCare when I bought my MacBook, but thus far I have had almost nothing come up that actually would have been covered. The cracking plastic on the palmrest is a recognized issue, but I think you have to have a nice genius in order to get the topcase replaced.

The only hardware issues with mine have been the battery (known issue, had its own individual warranty extended), power cord (known issue, had its own warranty extended), my sleep light stopped working after about a year or so, but i don't care, the bluetooth cuts out on occasion and I just replaced the fan cuz the bearing went.

The cracking, bluetooth and sleep light don't bother me too much since I only use the bluetooth once in a blue (get it?) moon to sync contacts with my cell.

The fan drove me nuts though, really... i almost lost it completely at one point. But I replaced it and now it is good again.

Well.. I think I got a lemon MBP. I had my screen go out on me, the graphics card, and the battery. Weird.. either way.. the screen problem was enough to make me glad that I bought AppleCare.
