im building a new system for the first time and and have a question. do i apply the thermal grease to the cpu die itself or do i apply it to the heatsink, and how much of it. the instructions dont specify how much to apply. ive heard its usually like 1mm thick but how do you measure 1 mm . this a aero 7+ on barton 2500. also i do install the motherboard first then install the cpu and fan ? or the cpu and fan then the motherboard?

The thermal grease application is just gut call as how thick...To get that paper thin spread I like to use a credit card and spread it until smooth....

Yes you want to apply it to the die of the cpu. We wnat to avoid spillove that gets on the exposed bridges of the amd cpu. Placing it on the heatsink means tough to guage true location of core when heatsink is placed on it...

I like to install cpu and then heatsink on the mobo outside of the case...I use the foam pad it came with and set it on my desk where I have free reign to find the angle best to apply the somewhat intense pressure to get this heatsinks on most of the time.... Be careful...

Do not take the rubber pads off of the amd chip. This will help to keep the heatsink from rocking on the rasied core..Also make sure you apply heatsink in the right direction...You'd be surprised...

No luck is needed just caution and don't rush yourself....

I like to sometime if the heatsink clip is tight I try to bend it a bit more flat so Idon't have as far to push down to clip it on....It is plenty tigh enough.....Be careful what you use to press the metal clip down. Watch you don't slip and watch for nearby capacitors you may hit. They are not on there often very tight and you can easily damage one...

its a thumb clip and ill tell you there is no room for my heatsink.. it will deffinatley be hitting a capacitor.. it wont be bending it but it will touching it .. should that matter?

Touching wont matter as long as no power is supplied...Bending would only matter if you were going to bend this thing say 30 degrees then the soder could break when you tried to bend it back....

Most motherboard designs wont put anything right there at the clip so it shouldn't be a problem...Look at both ends of the clip and make sure the one you are ultimately clipping down is te optimal one to use...
