Now, Let's say I have a PCI RAID card in which I have 2 Identical 40 Gb ATA/100 @ 7200RPM Harddrives in RAID 0, now can I install the OS on the RAID 0 array, or do I need to install it on a seperate hard drive that is not in the array? I read somewhere here that if I install the OS on the RAID 0 that it would just slow everything else up, whereas I also read elsewhere that installing the OS on a RAID 0 made everything much quicker overall. Can you guys clarify for me :) Thanks

*Edit, also with the PCI RAID card would it matter what brand I buy? Usually with PC components it doesnt matter, but I see highpoint cards for $70-80, whereas generic tekram, etc. cards cost around $20-30 when it supports RAID 0, 1, 0+1, etc.? Ive heard that the generic cards dont do jack for performance... is this true?

you can install it
as for slowing down/speeding up....i would think it would speed up...since raid 0 is supposed to speed up right...

Where did you hear that brand doesn't matter? It is often the difference between utter non-working crap and the good stuff. If you want to see how various PCI IDE RAID controllers perform, check out some of the reviews at StorageReview.
