I am trying to figure out how to use the dos "format" command if I want to use a 512k stripe size.

In case this isn't clear, I have 2 40GB 60GXP Deskstars. I know how to create an array with a 512k stripe size, but I don't know how to format the drive poperly.

just format. dont have to do anything.

as long as u have raid setup in raid controllers bios as 512k thats all u should have to do

now unless u want to change cluster size thats differ

believe command is format C: /z:64 (64 is for 32k cluster size)

and c is the drive u want to format

I think I want to change the cluster size, right?

I have a regular format with a 512k stripe size right now, and my HD performance is horrible. I am using an Iwill KK266-R. I could never figure out how to change the cluster size properly, so last time I just skipped that step.

I do use my comp for A/V and games (err... is there anything else these boxes are good for? ;)), and I had heard that this was a good stripe size for my purposes/mobo, but I am open to suggestions.

well hmm not sure since your rig is made for a/v and that needs hard drive performance more than games u should optimize it for that but i would recommend 64k or 128k (probably 128k)

also use fat32. i dont know what os u using but fat32 is faster

also use 32k cluster size so do the command i gave u above.
