I'm looking at a PC for a guy here at work. He suddenly has 2 HD's showing in explorer. Both identical. C: and R:

Whatever happens to one happens to the other.

I've never seen this before. Anyone have any ideas??

Is it possible he mapped one of his own drives to himself over the network? I've never tried it but it seems like it should work.

Good idea.... It's not mapped. It's not (currently) on a network and I can't right-click->Disconnect either drive.

Perhaps he has some sort of software mirroring going on. Is it two physical drives or two partitions on a single drive? What is(are) the total drive size(s)?

They are both IDENTICAL when you do properties.

Capacity 38.3GB

They LOOK like 2 separate, physical HD's, but there is only 1 on the system and when you add/delete anything on one drive it shows on the other as well.

Also, do both drives show up in device manager? Is it possible he created a shortcut to his original drive and renamed it to the R drive?

DOH!!!

For some unknown reason the following string is in his Autoexec.bat file:

subst R: C:\

WTF is that??? Why would someone do that? He knows NOTHING about computers. I suppose the company that built the computer put it in there???
