Say I have two hard drives with a sustained read of 30MB/s. Now I stripe them. Now I have a theoretical 60MB/s, right?

Now, I have four hard drives with the same 30MB/s. I stripe all four. Do I have 120MB/s?

IDE or SCSI?

I have a IDE Raid 0 with two IBM's 75 GXPs, and I don't hit double the throughput, although it is significantly faster. Also with IDE, when you stripe four drives, two of them will be on channels with the other two and that would be a decent performance hit.

The key word is theoretical. Anyway, you're assuming that if they were IDE drives, they're using the motherboard IDE controllers. Maybe I have a couple of PCI controllers?

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Do I, or not?

Theoretical, yeah I guess. Is it possible to have two IDE Raid cards and hook up four drives on them in a Raid 0?
