I've been reading these boards for a while and am quite impressed with the knowledge thats here. I was hoping to get some feedback on what might be my problem. I've got an older PC that I've been working with. When you boot it up, it doesn't ever load the bios screen nor does the monitor ever really come on. After 10 to 15 seconds, the alarm starts going off in alternating High - low pitches (almost like an ambulance) The system never really boots, I have replaced the bios battery thinking that might help and hell it couldn't hurt. I'm at a loss here as to whats causing the issue. Anyone have ideas?

I appreciate you looking into this for me.

I've tried the new memory, I'll give the video card a try tonight. And see what happens. Whats the possiblilty of it being the mobo?

Instead of only replacing them (mobo batteries)...try keeping them out of like an hour or so..,, that way your bios settings clear and everything should be set to default..maybe then you can start up..

Memory almost never goes "kaputt"...(unless u overclock it very much, and even then...)

If there is something damaged/dead, i would guess its your mobo or processor..

* I can start up with my graphics card uninstalled, should he be able to start up his computer with his video card completely "removed" ?

never tried it

That is a BIOS beep code, kind of like Morse (spelling?) code. You need to check your manual. It should tell you what the alternating patter of long and short (or high and low) beeps mean. Motherboards have different beep codes for different hardware failtures.

Exactly and gamerj I have had various Mem sticks go bad and/or not work so I either tried cleaning the contacts and/or RMA'd the stick ...as far as the Vid card goes I get beeps if it doesn't work and will not post...

alternating low-high in on many motherboards is usualy an overtheating problem. Make sure all the fans are plugged in. Depending on what bios the motherboard uses, it also sounds like it could be the video card. Have you tried booting with the video card out? If you get the same beep code, then I would say the video card is the likely culprit.

what do you mean by "the monitor doesnt ever really come on"?

My hunch is that you might have a burned out HSF.

I appreciate all the responses and as far as the monitor not ever really coming on, I mean the LED on the front never goes solid it simply blinks as the PC starts its bomb sound. I will give the video card a shot and try the leaving out the mobo batteries for a while as well, I'll keep you abreast of the situation. Thank you very much.
