quick question

trying to hook up my laptop to my big monitor and i've never done this.

i have the monitor cble going in the back to the laptop vga port but its just blinking "SELF TEST, MONITOR IS WORKING, CHECK SIGNAL"

is there some kind of option i need to enable?

in a hurry, t hats why i didnt post in laptop forum

Shoudl be a key to send the signal. On Dell I think it is something like Function F5 or F8 or something.

more than likely your laptop was already on? I had a laptop that needed to get rebooted from the start before it showed on the monitor. You can try that.

sometimes it can be done through the video settings also, like where you set the resolution and color depth and stuff for the video adapter in windows

You should see a symbol above one of the fkeys that looks like something like this |[]| , that is a box with rounded corners and a line on the left and right of it. That will switch the video over to the external vid port.
