Just got a Asus A7N8X-D, the board is laying on a glass tabletop and I've used several video cards and several peices of ram. I've tried the powersupply on a different computer as well. The problem is that the board shuts of power after several seconds. Has anyone had this problem before? I've also noticed that on the surface of my proc their is a perfect square. Its rough to the touch and again its a perfect square. Has anyone seen this before?

I've had that happen because the heatsink wasn't attached properly and the mobo shut itself down so it wouldn't fry.

whats this "perfect square"?
is it metal? plastic? kind of like chewing-gum?

If it's metal, thats the CPU die or heatspreader 😉
If it's plastic, possibly some kind of cover but usually these things are pretty damn obvious what they are, often with big lettered "REMOVE PRIOR TO INSTALLATION" or something on them.
If it's like chewing gum it's probably a thermal pad. though, these are always on the base of the heatsink rather than on the cpu die 😕

er basically describe this "perfect square". shutting off after a few seconds sounds like cpu overheating, so first thing to do is reinstall the heatsink & fan properly - which might involve finding out what this square is and wether it's supposed to be there 😉

I would honestly try to give you a pic but I cant. Yes I did take the sticker off my heatsink thank you very much 🙂 Its a perfect square, I cant really tell if it goes in or not. Its not plastic, maybe my Arctic Silver baked on it? Its kinda like sandpaper feel to it.

If I dont have a proc in the board will anything happen at all? I wonder if the board is dead? However, thats 2 dead mobos 😱

Some lady tells me no cpu is installed, well thats just great. You guys dont get any video from that?

Im pretty sure the mobo wont boot or anything with no proc installed. what proc is it? should look more or less like this or this

still have no idea what this stuff might be, and er what are you talking about in the last post 😕

I'm thinking maybe your CPU fan isn't spinning at a high enough RPM and the board is powering off. What model CPU fan are you using?
