Quick question.

I have the choice of getting a notebook with a Pentium 4 3.2gh processor, or a Pentium M 1.7... Which would you recommend? Thanks.

the P4 will be faster but the centrino will be cooler, have longer battery life, and probably be quieter
it just comes down to the choice between speed and those things

personally i would get the centrino just cause the whole technology behind it interests me

Where would you rate the M.. P4 wise, would it be about 2.7, 2.8?

The real question is what are your uses going to be and what do you expect from this???

The 1.7 would probably be more like a 2.4 to 2.53ghz in those apps that we have seen the centrinos act like on steroids and perform....However I have seen apps on my 1.5m that act as if the processor was a 1.5ghz chip versus my 3.5ghz desktop....

I can say after extensive testing I never once saw my 1.5m beat my 2.4b at 2.4ghz desktop with single channel DDR....It acted more as a 2.2max or less desktop...However knowing laptops are a touch behind in other areas of the platform maybe it would have been equal to a 2.4 laptop and therefore a 1.7m maybe closer to a 2.6-2.7.....

Dont really know for sure and it may be hard to compare...

Well, basically I'll be needing it for school... browsing, watch movies, music, some games.. simple stuff.

I'm getting the same price for the 3.2 P4 and the 1.7M... Only difference is the M has a 15.4" Wide Screen and the P4 has a regular 15.

Well with those type of apps and the fact most all of those things could be down with a processor 1/3 of that speed I would say go with the 1.7m....the battery life is truly amazing.....

I run CAD and often need to access stuff in the field where is no power hookup and my battery will last 5 hours.....When I fold at home after work I turn the power format to desktop and set all the setting to keep it from going into stanby and basically override the stepping so that it runs 1500mhz all the time....This would kill the 5 hour battery in like 1hr 30minutes....
