I have a question for the tech junkie.

I wanna add 2 hard drives.. Would it benefit me to get a seperate controller card ? ( meaning would it get faster transfer ? )

or should I just plug those bad mother***** into the motherboard itself ?

Question 2.

Would it be okay if I plugged a HD into the 2nd ide plug on the motherboard ? ( one that's connected to the CD-rom )

Question 3

Would it make a difference between a 2mb buffer and a 8mb buffer ? I'm gonna just be using it for storing large movie files and music. Possible some DV editing.

Thank You

Yes it's ok to plug it into the same channel as a cd-rom. I've got 3hds, 2 on 1 ide channel, and another sharing the 2nd ide channel. In the past it used to be the case that all devices on one channel ran at the speed of the slowest device, meaning that it was a bad idea to put a HD on the same channel as a cd-rom because the HD would run very slowly. Nowadays that's not the case, devices can run the maximum speed available, even if they are two different speeds.

As for the buffer, you probably wont notice a huge difference when using large files from disk but you probably would in general use (ie windows).

It'll still work if that is your question. You don't have to buy a controller card.
