Quick question, who are the primary companies creating securities out of mortgages?

Who pools most of the mortgages into securities? Did repealing the Glass-Steagall Act affect who was securitizing mortgages?

Just to clarify why I'm asking, I was just wondering who was profiting from these the most. Seems like whoever originates the securities was at the apex of profiting from the housing boom. They sold these things off at inflated values, and were no longer exposed to any of the risk.
