GT40: 5.4L supercharged mid-engine rear drive

Shelby Mustang Cobra: same S/C 5.4L, front engine, rear drive.

now, I can't remember that last one, it has the same engine from the GT40 plus the same mid-engine chassis.... what the hell is that model???

The Ford GT is the only thing you could classify as a "supercar".

I was just thinking the Shelby probably doesn't qualify.

Exactly. Any Ford product is not deserving of "supercar status".

(Let the flames begin)...Yawn..

did I mention that the '05 stang won another Grand-AM race this past weekend and handed the IRS-based BMW's and Porsche's their asses again?

That's 2 out of 3 for the year...and came in 2nd and 3rd in the one they didn't win.

And how does the Rustang fair at the 24 hour of LeMan's? Perhaps they did not even qualify. :D

I dunno about no rustang at Leman's...just that my live-axle rear from the stone age kicks butt.

IIRC...the Ford Cobra's whipped Ferrari's asses back in the late 60's :D

Aye. A true Supercar exudes a sense of aerodynamic fvckability that only few precious vehicles atain, the GT40 and the GT being included, and the Shelby well, not.

The Shelby would indeed provide me with a great time on the race track, but make no mistake, the Ford GT is the one that would require an entire roll of Bounty for cleanup afterwords....

Have they? The Ford GT40 is the only car I ever heard about going to LeMan's The only other American one I know of is the Saleen S7.

The GT40 was an amazing car for its time.

The Saleen S7 is not a Rustang. Get your facts straight...:disgust:

Well, if you are speaking about American cars, I believe the Chevy Corvette has some minor accomplishments at LeMans to speak of

Probably got their asses handed to them by Jap cars...along with the Euros.

I seriously don't get the love affair that everyone on this forum has with Eurotrashmobiles...I mean, BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz have HORRIBLE reliability!

Goes back all the way to world war two...the germans made flashy, big tanks, but they sucked the big bucket against the behemoth, crudely constructed beasts of the Russians or the smaller, less armored, yet way, way more versatile and reliable American tanks.

Ferdinand Porsche? He designed the Panther and Tiger tanks. In a quote from Kelly's Heroes, "It's a piece of junk!" His cars still are pieces of junk up to this day.

Just because a car is FAST, doesn't mean it's not reliable. Look at Skylines, RX7 and RX8s, Supras, NSX...brutally fast cars that will ACTUALLY KEEP WORKING after a few months on the road.

I don't know if you saw that episode of TopGear where Clarkson bought the used Porsche for 2000 bucks. It was like ten years old, and it died after 20 minutes on the road. Whereas people drive RX-7's from 1993 and before, which are sometimes TWIN turboed, putting quite a bit of stress on the engine, and they still drive reliably!

dude, I asked a relatively straightforward question and this is what I got? One real reply, one reply about the real reply, the rest are anti-domestic/euro/american flame fest?

hey, this is ATOT alright :)

anyway, so the Shelby Mustang has NOTHING to do with that Shelby concept? (mechanically speaking)

Ok first off - it's not called the GT40. It's the Ford GT.

Second - the Shelby Mustang Cobra has a 5.4L engine, but it's not the same engine. The GT has a brand new all aluminum 5.4 block. The Shelby has a cast iron 5.4 originally found in the 2000 Mustang Cobra R, which it shares some parts (GT heads, few others I seem to have forgotten) with the GT.

Correct. The GR-1 is a different platform. There was a V10 in the Shelby concept from the Detroit auto show in 2004 (that nobody seemed to like). I'm not sure if that same V10 will go into the GR-1.
