Quick question regarding upgrade

Hi again guys,

I've just purchased myself this system

Intel Core i5 4670k @ 3.40GHz
2x4GB Ballistix Sport DDR3 RAM @ 800MHz
AMD Radeon 7870 GHz Edition (2GHz, Sapphire)
Seagate Barracuda 500GB HDD
Kingston 60GB SSD

I haven't actually had a PC in about 5 years, and i fully intend to get straight into playing
Crysis 3
GTA 5
Skyrim Remastered
Dark Souls 3
Deus ex Mankind
Witcher 3
Kingdom Come

And i want to be able to play all of them with everything turned up to the highest (yes, im one of the blasphemous people who love how pretty the game looks, all those graphics don't matter people can jump in a lake with concrete shoes on)
I've already ordered 24gb of much better ram with heatspreaders on, im just looking for a graphics card i can buy used for a low enough price that will be able to play these games on max settings at 1080p. I only need 1080p as that is as high as my lovely monitor goes. So any suggestions would be very welcome (no 1080s, 1070s or 1060s, probably don't need 980's etc either thanks guys).

Thanks so much

What's your "lovely" monitor's framerate? What's the average/minimum framerate you want?

By this do you mean that you don't think you need such cards for your performance requirements, or that you want an AMD card? A 1060 6GB seems like a good choice to me. Especially if you want to install add-on high-res textures to make your games even prettier.

the 1080 remark was basically due to the fact that thee cards are 1000 dollars, even the 1060 6gb cards are like 500 aren't they?

im just looking for around 40fps minimum on these games, AMD or nVidia, i'm not paying 500 for a card though, when rewind 2 years and i could buy a card that was even better back THEN for half the price! and in a years time, will be worth 1/5th the price

Also brother one quick question i don't have the answer to yet. I have a standard enough 1080 24inch monitor, can i just use my HDMI cable into my graphics card, or should i get a display port cable? is there much of a graphical difference? Thanks man

You only need a displayport cable vs hdmi for very high refresh rate and resolutions, or for Gsync and FreeSync. Otherwise its the same, like on a 1080p 60hz monitor such as yours

Should have bought a gaming prebuilt with an OEM GPU. With GPU & DDR4 prices like they are, something like this is actually better/cheaper than BYO. (YMMV depending on coupons, etc.)

To play those games with the detail cranked, you want a 1060 6GB or 1070. If you're not willing to pay for one, you have a problem.

An R9 280x is around $150.-, a GTX 780 is $175ish, and 780ti is around $200.- used ebay. Both offer substantial upgrade to 7870. I still have an Asus gtx 780 that i managed to OC to around GTX 980 equivalent so there is some headroom available for certain models.

I just sold 3 980TI's for $450 each. I am sure you can get that or a 980 for less than $500

What is your PSU? If you are willing to buy used, consider a 290(x) or 390(x). Should be available for around 300 sometimes less.
