I just put together a new rig but decided to use 4 sticks of 256mb PC2700 memory I had left over from before. They were purchased from Crucial. Which by the way I have to comment on. I've had 4, count them, 4 stick of Crucial memory fail on me within 2 years. They were all purchased from their web site. Of course, because of their warranty I had 2 replaced but for 2 they did not, just because I had heat spreaders on them. Let me just stated that I NEVER over clocked them. Ever! But they still decided not to replace 2 of the 4.
Anyway, getting back to my question. I'm building a rig as follows...
AMD 64 3200
Asus A8N SLI
Nvidia 6600 GT pci-e
250GB Maxtor SATA HDD
Audigy 2Z gamer
Dell 2000FP 20" LCD
Nu Tech 8X DVD +/- RW
So my question is would using these PC2700 (1GB in total) be a practical thing to do? I mean I know there are much faster and better memory out there, but will it hurt a lot to run these memory that I have already. Or should I fork up the extra cash to buy newer, better and faster memory. Any comments or suggestions? Thanks.
