Hi, everyone says buy the Pentium4 1.6 or 1.8A. How do I know which is A? Is it the one with socket 478 or socket 423? Or is it based on something else? Thank You

Its socket 478. The A denotes 512K cache. it should say 1.6A in the description and also 512K cache if it is mentioned.

The A processors are based on the .13 micron process, have 400mhz FSB speed and have a 512k on chip cache.

While it's true that all Northwoods use S478, not all S478 P4's are Northwoods. Intel also makes Willamette (.18µ/256k L2 cache) S478 chips.
