Quick Question on Financial Aid

I'm getting a measely loan of about $1000 per quarter for school. Thats it, no grants, scolarships, etc... nothing else.

Is that considered financial aid? By that I mean, do I fit under the category as "currently recieving financial aid". I'm wondering this because theres all these free stuff for students on financial aid that you would otherwise have to pay for, like tutoring sessions...

Is it subsidized? The loan that is. Either way, it is considered financial aid. Financial aid doesn't mean "all bills paid" 😉

Well, did you get the loan after filing a FAFSA? Or did you just borrow the money from a bank? If it's a Stafford Loan or something, it should be considered financial aid.

Yeah, I got it from FAFSA. I believe it is subsidized... thats the one w/ no interest until you graduate from college right?

I got like another $1000 non-subsidized loan, but my parents told me not to sign up for that...

Loans, subsidized or unsubsidized is considered finacial aid.

Only $1000 per semester? Surely you tried fastweb.com or something? Talked to your finacial aid center at school? Maybe they just suck, I know mine does, but that just means you just have to try harder on your own. Or maybe I'm wrong here and the reason you're getting so little finacial aid is because you're able to pay for college well enough? If not, I'd try to find other aid fast.

Edit:

Wait, that's per quarters. Plus there's the fact that maybe your school might not be very expensive. My brain is dead tonight. Other than the first sentence in this post, you should probably ignore the rest, unless it makes sense to you.

Financial aid is also decided by the school. My school only has about 40% of students who have financial aid met.

avoid loans!!!! (if at all possible) i owe $20k to the government locked in at around 6% interest. when ive finally payed it off in 10 years i will have paid about $28k.

if i would have gone to community college and taken 5 years to graduate, worked part time, and avoided loans; id be putting money into savings or the stock market instead of the governments pockets for the next 10 years.

hindsight is 20-20

Hmmm, so does this mean I would qualify under "recieving financial aid" and would be able to recieve free tutoring sessions instead of normally paying $60 per?

It's $1000 per quarter. My high school grades sucked so no scolarships of course, and my parents make too much money according to the bastard financial aid system. We're not rich, and both of my parents got their college degrees and work full time, supporting two of us in college While in the mean time this bastard financial system gives out free money to a family with only one working parent while the other parent decides to work only supporting one child who uses that money to buy a new car.

But back to the topic on hand, I don't want to leech more money off my parents and I'm in the process of getting a job, but I dont have $60 to spend myself on these tutoring sessions... Nobody here worked with the UC financial aid system?
