quick question on 168-pin EDO RAM

I accidentally bought a 32mb stick of RAM for my girlfriend's eMachine (don't worry we're giving it to her parents soon)

It's an EDO stick so it's obviously not gonna work with the 32mb SDRAM already in there. It runs fine on it's own at 66mhz.

I thought EDO RAM was mainly seen in 72-pin form for older boards that use Pentiums and such...

Are there any uses for 168-pin EDO RAM in things other than PCs? Wouldn't it kinda suck running 60/70ns memory in today's systems?

EDO RAM does exist in the 168-pin DIMM format.....just that there are not many machines that actually use it. Ideally, if you can find a Pentium with DIMM slots, you can use it there. There are a few later IBM and Dell Pentiums that used EDO DIMMs...

The 440LX chipset was the last to actually support EDO RAM.....later chipsets do not.

It actually may still work in it. My little brother's got a K6-2 with 64mb of PC100 and 32 of EDO. I know it at least runs, and appears to work alright, but I don't use it that much.

As long as you're at 66mhz FSB, you should be alright

I stuck it in a (BX) Asus P2B and it worked, which was pretty cool to see my p3-700 running at 466, chugging to get into windows)

So i guess there may be a market for this, I'm gonna go post it in FS/FT
