Quick question.... how much more does a Radeon 8500DV suck compared to an LE with same core/mem clocks(if at all)?

I would like the Video in features and stuff of the DV, but I thought there was a performance drop compared to the LE, or maybe it was the retail 8500......?

Or is it the same speed as a comparable LE(i would think it would be, it's the same core and the same memory as the LE, right?)

Thanks,

Have a look at the 128mb AIW, 275/275 clocking like the regular retail.

It costs a bit more than the 64mb, but hey, you're already way up there!

Ummm... only 30 bucks more than the 128 LE d00d.... at newegg... yeah it's a refurb.... who cares?

I had considered the AIW, but it is a little cost prohibitive, and hell, i'm going to get a good gaming card for DOOM III when it comes out, so, eh...

The AIW R8500DV clocks in at 230/190.
The AIW R8500 clocks at 275/275.

R8500: 275/275
R8500LE: 250/250
R8500LELE: 230/230

Even the R8500DV is still an excellent performer, generally a touch slower then the GF3 Ti200 which is no slouch.

The difference between the full R8500 and the R8500LE is generally only about 5% in terms of real world performance, which isnt a very significant total IMHO.
At 275/275 it generally performs a touch faster then the 'classic' GF3, and a bit slower then the GF3 Ti500.
Of course that can vary significantly depending upon the individual application, and visual options.

zsouthboy,

I bought the AIW 8500DV 'bulk' version from newegg, and am very happy with it. It performs very well in the games I play, (q2, q3, HL) and the TV/video features are outstanding. I was having some minor problems in WinMe, probably old TnT2 drivers hanging on somewhere. So I did a fresh install with XP pro and everything works flawlessly now. The only difference between the bulk version and the retail is the packaging and no software bundle with bulk version.

Yeah, that;s the one I'm getting... I think the description for it is wrong though, it says that it is 250/250 on newegg..... i emailed them to tell them it's wrong..

How high are these things overclocking? I saw 275/230 on a review site somewhere... is this normal? that is almost LE memory speeds, the core speed doesnt' matter too much, as it is bandwidth limited.....

Had mine at 275/210, but didn't see enough performance gain to justify it. The memory on my card is samsung 5ns, so it won't go much past 200 without good cooling. And yeah, newegg's description is wrong, and I let them know about it because I assumed the card was 250/250. They offered to let me return it, but that's about it. I know everybody just loves them, but they seem to mis-advertise things like this often, and I think it's crap.

I'll probably just try to run mine unoverclocked, it's too bad they don't put better memory on these things(even though i guess that would raise prices)..... my freakin original Radeon DDR had 5ns mem on it too.........

I sent newegg an email and told them their description is wrong, who knows if they're gonna change it or not...
