Quick question, do grommets go on the inside or outside of the screw...?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am planning on putting grommets on my HD. I've never used these before, should it go screw, grommet, drive bay, hard drive? Or screw drivebay gromett, hard drive? Thanks

thanks, BTW I ordered 16 of these because I didn't remember my new case uses drive rails. Anywhere else I might put these beside on my hard drive? I was thinking maybe my PSU...

You could probably use them for case fans also.

Something else to think about, I remember reading an article about hard drive problems because of static electricity. If you properly install grommets, the drive is ungrounded.

why would you want to insulate the drive from your case?

Vibration. If the drive is bolted directly to the rails (which are usually either part of the case, or solidly attached to it as part of a drive cage), vibration from the drive can cause your case to resonate. That can increase your system's noise level significantly.

Hello everyone, sorry I haven't checked this thread for about 2 weeks. I tried putting the grommets on the inside but they wouldn't fit... Is it supposed to be really hard to get them in? It seems like there's less space between the HD and the cage to fit all 4 grommets. I put them on the outside temporarily. If I were to put them on both sides, I would need to get new screws I assume since the grommets take up a lot of room. Am I doing this wrong?

You'll need special screws that are slightly longer and have no thread at the base. Not sure where to find them, but I bet Directron has some. I'll do a quick search.

I'm not sure, since I'll be away from home today and tomorrow, but the screws that come with the Sonata and SLK3700-BQE might work with standard drive cages. If somebody can confirm they do, then offer to buy a set off somebody in the FS/FT forum for $1.00 or $2.00. Hell, if you confirm they'll fit, I'll set you a set of mine.
