Quick question about win2k.

My uncle who lives in California just got dsl via Verizon. I built the computer and it was working fine when he was on dialup. With dsl, when ever he opens up Internet explorer, windows installer popps up and after a few seconds restarts his computer. After restarting, if he opens up ie again, the same thing happens. :| Why does windows do this? I had him disable the win 2k built in auto restart function under startup and recovery.

The computer specs that i remember:
Soyo Firedragon
Intel P4 1.7ghz
80gb 7200 rpm Maxtor
256mb DDR2700 (i think)
Nvidia TNT 2
Netgear pci Lan card
 
Its not the found new drivers, its the windows installer thing. I'll have him download the newest ie and install it. If i had him install SP2, would that help?
