Quick question about SATA

Hey guys,

Quick question for ya: Building new comp, just got all my parts and its my first SATA HDD to hook up, and i see theres the SATA cable which i hooked up, but then when it comes to power plug i see theres two choices for me, i can plug the standard white plug in, or my mobo came with some little adapter that plugs into a standard one, and plugs into a different part of the HDD.... which should i use??? im not doing raid or anything, just want it as a normal harddrive...

congrats on new pc with SATA. i would say try them out 😀 maybe the mobo only work if you use the adapter. can you tell us your mobo? and drive? pics?

Chaintech VNF3-250 with a western digital 80gb HDD... i cant really try it out right now, cause i just had to send the mobo back due to faulty chipset, its being RMA'ed... so i guess ill see soon... i dont really see how there could be a difference because is just power... not data going through the cord

I'd just use the standard molex connector. No use using the adapter, it just introduces more connections along the power line, more areas where it could fail, plus its giving you the same power.

Exactly, the adapter is for the SATA drives which don't have the regular connector, if you had bought one of those you would need it, just the mobo maker covering all the bases.
