Howdy,

I'm just wondering if I need to run two graphics cards with a 24" monitor? I'm building a new system and will be getting a ATI 4870 and my system is going to be Xfire ready. Will one 4870 be able to handle a 24" monitor on it's own or do I need to get a second one? Haven't found any posts about this topic so I'm a little lost. The monitor I was looking at was, Acer P243WAid Black-Silver 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor with HDCP Support 400 cd/m2 3000:1 ACM, (this was puled off Newegg). I will be gaming, general MS office programs and web surfing. Thanks in advance.

I am running a 24 inch monitor in 1920x1200 with onboard graphics. It works fine for me, but then I am not a gamer.

Any modern graphics card can easily deliver the resolution/refreshrate for a 24''.
I for example have a dual monitor setup comprised of a 24'' and a 22'' and both can be fed by a 8800GTS type card just fine.

Now for 3D gaming it's a bit complicated.
For gaming you typically want to play in your monitor's native resolution for optimal visual quality.
BUT: You can always use a lower resolution than the native one and use scaling to fill the screen.
So for 24'' the typical native res is 1920x1200 which is a tad high if you want to e.g. play Crysis maxed out, but you an always game at e.g. 1440x900 and scale it up to fill the screen.

I am running a 24 inch monitor in 1920x1200 with a 4850, and that works fine for any use including video games.
Obviously Crysis would slow down in 1920x1200, so 1680x1050 or whatever would be more appropriate for that.

Most games except Crysis run just fine in high quality at full resolution, though, and would be even better on your 4870.

If anything getting a 1GB RAM card would be a better benefit for most things than getting 2x4870s for CFX because most games
don't need the extra power of a second card, but when playing in high resolution with lots of AA in high texture detail you can easily run
out of RAM with 512MB.
