quick question about DELL

Where are the cheaper prices?
Home User or small buisness?
why?
And do they care which side you buy from?

I find home to be usually cheaper. Sometimes Small business has some promotions going on maybe more suitable for you.

Also Dell Home is usually free with shipping and no tax for me.

Unless you live in a state which has no sales tax (such as Oregon), usually Dell Home will be cheaper unless Small Business has some awesome promo's.

Well, building it, is not always cheaper.
It is for a friend of mine in another state, so, no I don't want to build it.

If you do not need it right away, I would check in on Hot deals. Every 4-5 days or so, another hot deal pops up from dell. ( some from buisness some home ) Keep your eyes open, and you can save some big bucks.

Then I would go with Dell Home.

1) Which model number Dimension dekstop or Inspiron laptop are they considering?
2) Do you know what specs they're looking for?
3) What is their budget?

1) I guess the 8200

2) They have a p166 now. They just need to be able to do what we all do - surf, play games, write a paper
P4 1.6 G is good enough, but I would get them a GF3 Ti 200, since it is cheap, mnem 256 wouldn't hurt or cost much, 40 Gig drive I think
it will also be helpful for him to have WinXP, and Office
He already has a monitor
no printer

3) around $1,000

A friend of mine likes to buy from the refurb section, says he saves money and the warranty is the same.

Are you sure that he needs that much power that the Dimension 8200 has to offer? You might want to consider the 4400 which could save a few hundred but if your friend doesn't mind a rebate I think they can get a smokin' deal on an 8200:

MS Office XP costs $150, I would suggest getting MS Works 2002 instead, buy MS Office elsewhere and upgrade the CD-ROM to a 16x/10x/40x CD-RW for only $40 more.
