Quick question about CPU temps

Okay my friend has a 2ghz AMD CPU (I think its a 2000+ overclocked to 2.0ghz) in his rig. His CPU temp is 60 degrees Celcius. Do you think the 60 deg Celcius is too high for his chip? Last time I checked, anything over 60 deg Celcius was entering dangerous heat territory. If I'm not mistaken, the accepted rule is that any temps near 70 deg C will slowly damage the chip. My friend says that AMD raised the temperature limit to 95 C and that 60 C is safe for his CPU. However, we both want to see if his CPU is really safe or not.

He has an all copper heatsink (forgot who made it) with AS2 on it. Oh ya, the all copper heatsink is not the Thermaltake Volcano 7.

60C would be too high for me, but I don't think its supposed to be too high for that chip. I forget what they are rated for, but it is over 70C. I would be very surprised if that chip is stable running 2ghz at 60C though. You also have to remember that (as far as I know) all temperatures for Athlons are taken inside the socket, not actually from inside the core. The core is probably running much higher than 60C. You might want to reseat the hsf and reapply AS2 on the chip. How much voltage is he running through the cpu?

Off topic a little, but what XP rating does that post at? (2100+, 2200+....?)

P.S. my 1800+ oc'd to 2000+ idles at 31 degrees so I'm wondering heatsink and thermal paste he has.

My 1.4T-bird @ 1.7 runs @ ~45*c, but it's also got some nice cooling :). Anyways 60*c is pretty high, but if it's stable I wouldn't worry about it too much. Every AMD CPU I've ever delt with will become unstable long before problems develop.

60 C is at the high end of what I'd be comfortable with. Case fans front and back
are cheap enough and effective at lowering temps.

i would be uncomfortable at 60C. now is that temp at load or idle? if its at idle... i would REALLY be concerned. the northwoods run 2.x ghz at around 45C i heard. come on amd... lets get rolling to .13 :D
