I haven't overclocked since my old p4 system, and I was wondering how important RAM is for a achieivng a good O/C say of 3.0Ghz for a E6300. With core 2 duo motherboards can you still put a divider on the ram or do I need DDR2 6400 to reach a FSB of 400Mhz

an FSB of 400 w/ a E6300 will only get you 2.8GHz, but you can put dividers. You will lose some performance with the RAM dividers.
It would be preferable to have at least DDR2-800 if you want to hit 3.0GHz.

ddr-800 is basically capable of 400FSB, and will reach the 430 FSB I'm looking for at a 1:1....

hmmmm... how much difference will 2Gbs of RAM make over 1Gb of ram for gaming performance... say with a 7900Gt?

It will slighty (5-10 FPS) improve game performance but will mainly reduce load times and generally smooth out your gaming experience.

cheex you basically have the system I am trying to build...

I was looking at the Gigabyte DS3... is it a confusing BIOS to O/C... My old mobo was a ASUS and you didn't have to mess with too many timings to get a good O/C.. where as my firend has a DFI lanparty with all the options and O/C is way more confusing.
