Quick printer question

I'm not really sure about this, but my cousin asked me if she could use her Dell printer that came with her Dell desktop she bought last year on her new Gateway laptop because she's going off to college and bought a new laptop. I would think not... but can I get this confirmed? Thanks.

Oyeve is correct---get the drivers for the OS on the laptop---and also provided the connectivity is there also in terms of a parallel, wireless, or usb hookup and she will be fine----but that Dude--get a dell may be decent advice on a computer---but really stinks on printers---because dell printers are made by Lexmark---and Lexmark inkjets are the worst for printing economy. So if she plans on college---where she likely to do some heavy duty printing---tell her to get a more economical printer----and turn that dell into a flower pot.---rather than have the printer eat her out of house and dorm room.

Even something like a chipped Canon---say the new ip4300 will save her a bundle---but if she can find an older unchipped Canon using the BCI-3&6 cartridges---then she will really be money ahead.---or consider a monochrome laser for the same reasons.
