quick postfix question

kinda new to unix mail servers, so .....

I was told that the best way to set the /var/spool/postfix/etc/locatime was by copying it from the /etc/localtime. I was also told that I should setup a cron job to re-copy it once an hour to make sure it stays current...

my question is why cant I just make a symbolic link? is there something wrong with doing that?
