I have two PSD files. One of them is going to be overlaid on the other. There's a certain color I'd like to remove from the palette or marked as transparent (I can do this with GIF I know). How do I replace or remove the color and make it the source of transparency so I can re-import the image as a transparent layer on another?

Use the magic wand and set the tolerance to 0 and uncheck continguous. click on a pixel that has the color you want to declude. Press CTRL+shift+i, cut the pixels, paste them into a new layer. You should be able to overlay the new layer on top of anything and get the transparency.

Because there might be those same colors in the picture that he wants to keep. It's like using a blue screen but then trying to dress the actor in a blue shirt. :) Doesn't work all the time.
