Quick networking question/prob.

I have "A" and PC#1 in basement.
I have "B" and PCs #2 and #3 upstairs.
I do not want to run >100' of cable through walls.

(A)Router w/Hub ============ PC#1
\\
\\
\\
//
//
(B) Hub
// ......\\
// ....... \\
// ........ \\
PC#2 .....PC#3

This is my setup...

What kind of cables do I need, and where do I plug them in?

ie:

...connect A's Port-2 into PC#1?
...connect A's Port-1 and B's uplink Using CAT5?
...connect B's Ports 1 and 2 into PCs #2 and #3?

Hub "B" does have an uplink, and I know it doens't matter which "port" I use, just simplified it...

My other concern is if I need a cross-over cable. What is that yellow cable for?

Is this right?

THANK you.

Here's a basic example for ya...

R=router (assumes: 4port router w/uplink)
p1=port1
p2=port2 (etc etc)
H=hub (this example assumes: 5port hub, uplink shared with p5)
pc1=pc1 (etc etc)

R_p1 -> pc1 w/straight through cat5(e)
R_p2 -> H_uplink
R_p3 -> (any other computers you want to hook up to R)
H_p1 -> pc2 w/straight through cat5(e)
H_p2 -> pc3 w/straight through cat5(e)
H_p3 -> (same as above for the rest of the ports for H, excluding p5)

All your cables in such a situation would be straight through. You could use cat5, but cat5e is preffered. No crossover cables needed unless you try to do: R_p4 -> H_p4

You mentioned a yellow cable, where did you get it? What was it being sold as?

I merely refernced yellow cable... as it is usually a crossover.

Basically, what I outlined is what you outlined, so it works. Good.

Thanks.
