Quick Motherboard question

I've had some issues in the past with replacing motherboards that had different northbridge and southbridges which required me to reformat. Would there be any issues going from P965 ICH8R to P35 ICH9R?

you should always reformat when you replace a vital part of your system such as the motherboard. Yes there are ways that you can be fine when you change it out but the possibilty for something to go wrong or not function correctly is much greater compared to just reformatting.
 
I agree with the reformat when swapping mobos too.

Its the ONLY way to BE SURE everything is right.

IMO if you swap mobos without doing a clean install of windows then please, for the love of god dont ever come online and complain that drivers are giving you issues and insist its the mobo/video or whatever hardware makers fault for having poor drivers.

Seriously, there should be a discalimer on every mobo box that says, "if you cant do a clean format and re-install of windows, then what in the world are you doing installing a motherboard!"
"DO NOT call tech support about driver issues for any hardware product until you've done a format/clean install of your OS!"

Im sorry jgigz , dont take it personal, as you can see , people who do this is one of the things that really bother me.
They do a mobo swap without a clean install of windows , then go on every message board and complain when their pc gets a BSOD and blame it on poor drivers.
IMO , those people should just buy a console, because they have no reason to be swapping pc parts.



 
Yeah, you guys have pretty much confirmed what I thought. I normally always do a reformat when vital hardware goes in, but I've been a little pressed for time lately with school and all so I was curious to see if it was actually necessary.

MTDEW: I couldn't agree with you more and I don't take it personally, if I have an issue I always check and make sure its nothing I've done before I go and blame drivers or the mfg.

But i still think you're better off re-installing everything. 😉




 
Thanks again for the info, I didn't know you could do that but I think I'll just wait till I find the time to do a fresh install.
