I have a Zalman heatpipe to install - - the power going to the back of my 9700pro is resistant to being taken off - is there any trick to this, or do I just need to supply sufficient force?

Also am installing a Zalman CNPs700A-AlCu HSF. Should I use OCZ Ultra II Silver Compound or the supplied thermal grease.

Thanks

I've never been a big fan of thermal grease. Stick with the silver thermal compund. Silver has the highest thermal conductivity of any of the elements.

Are you talking about the little power connector similar to the plug that goes to the floppy drive? If so, I find it best to work it a little side to side grasping the sides. If you keep at it, you'll work it off. It is never a good idea to apply a lot of force to any computer part. You'll just end up bending the pins or damaging the connector/board. A little care and some patience (and maybe a tiny screwdriver) is all that should be required.

Well I got it all installed. Heatpipe seems to be working great, I have a zalman 94mm fan blowing on it, using the fb123 fan holder. My cpu temps have dropped 4c, but not sure how accurate this is as the p4p800mb seems to show unrealistic low temps for mb and cpu 26 and 22 respectively. Only problem I had was first time around I did not seat the cpu properly (I am that dumb), so was very relieved when I found the problem. (Anyways I thought Paulisdead)

Just about forgot, things are much quieter. Not completely, but that seems to be unrealistic on my budget. Still the sound is not at all annoying and only noticable when the environment is quiet.:D
