What kind of spaghetti? Generally 7-10 minutes? It really depends. To tell if its done, throw a piece on the fridge and see if it sticks.

The only way to really tell is to taste it.
If it's regular spaghetti, check it after about 7 minutes. Pull a piece out and bite it. It should be firm in the middle but not "crunchy".
Remember that if you aren't going to rinse with cold water, it will continue to cook a little after you take it out, so make sure you don't let it go too long.

Oh, and don't use oil in the water. It only prevents sauce from sticking to the spaghetti. If the spaghetti is cooked properly, it shouldn't stick. I have great results with Barilla pasta.

Spoken like a true expert! Never serve someone brought up with real Italian food spaghetti that was cooked with oil in the water "to keep it from sticking together." Like TechnoKid said, it keeps the sauce from sticking to the spaghetti.
