Quick - how do I open a corked bottle of wine without a corkscrew?

Bang the bottom of the bottle against your hand or something else that's firm but not gonna break it (tree).

Drill press. Never underestimate the utility of industrial tools in the kitchen.

Have any wood screws at least an inch long? Life's gonna suck if you crumble the cork into your wine... little floating pieces of cork to pick out.

Arghhh - I have two tools in the house - a flat head and a phillips screwdriver. I have wire cutters too. . .

Sigh. No screws - tons of nails.

Ark. . .

No pen knife. Working at it with a flathead driver now - scared I'm going to break the bottle now.

you can take a coat hanger and cut off the end that has the twisty, windy part. Or use a coat hanger to make a corkscrew. I've done it and it works.

Well, your only other option is to freeze the bottle, then smash it and have a wine lollipop.

Tried the banging - no work.

I'm going to the liquor store now to buy a corkscrew dangit. . .

Place a four quart sauce pan w/ two quarts of water on the stove. Bring water too a boil. Place wine bottle in water. In a few minutes cork will self-extract.

Since the wine bottle is made of glass, and glass is a liquid, wait for the bottle to melt enough that the cork becomes loose. Remove the cork and enjoy.

This happens sometimes when I go camping. I remove the foil. Then I hammer the bottom of the bottle against a tree trunk.

I saw coldfusion's method before going out the door. Broke the end off of a wire coat hanger - screwed it in - popped the cork - saved the day - and the other person doesn't even know I was asking for help.

Thanks everyone - especially cold.
