Im a complete cpu n00b.....I have tons of fans, etc to back the overclocking. But I dont wanna OC too high.....What is a good mid setting with this setup? What timing and bus speed? Thanks in advance!

Sorry to bother again, but I think the highest multiplier I can get is 9x....does it change the multiplier if I change it to 220? Thank you!

Do you have the Socket 939 or 754 3000+, the 939 (Winchester 90nm) has a 9x multiplier, 754 (Newcastle 130nm) has a 10x multiplier. Making the stock speed of the 939 1.8 ghz (200x9) and the stock speed of the 754 2.0ghz (200 x 10) so if the multiplier only goes to 9 then you probly have the 90nm. What is the exact model name of your motherboard? MSI K8N neo Platinum, neo2, fir, etc?

if u have a a64 3000+ (socket 939), the multiplier should be 9x. regardless, 220mhz is a good place to start. this will get u 220x9=1980mhz. you should get performance similar to the 3200+. gd luck!

yes, its a 939 socket....Thanks alot for all the help...so, 220 @ 9 is good? BTW, I have a Xaser III thermaltake case, a venus 12 heatsink fan, and artic silver 5 thermal compound, so I can run cool....is 220 * 9 still a good choice? or shall I go faster? Oh, I also have coursair 1024twinx XMS ram.

edit : its a k8n msi platnum neo2

I think the best would be to read up about what your doing. You clearly dont know what your doing and need more info. Check overclockers.com or read anands fine writeup on overclocking that chip. Make sure you keep an eye on temps and volts and dont get overzealous.
