I am planning on overclocking my sempron 2800+ (socket 754) and am looking for a motherboard.
I was going to get the DFI Lanparty UT (nforce 3 250gb) which is obviously a good board, but I'm not longer able to acquire it.
I am left with three choices:
1) Asus K8N nForce 250 $93.00
2) MSI K8N Neo-V (V2.0) nForce 250 $86.00
3) MSI K8N Neo-Platinum nForce 250gb $139.00
Now my question is, which should I get? I'm planning on getting the HT speed to around 300mhz. I know the platinum will be able to handle that, but I'm wondering if the cheaper boards could as well, for the cheaper price. From what I've read, the nforce 250 and 250gb are identical except for gigabit lan and hardware firewall, both which are not important to me. Will the cheaper boards be able to get to an HT speed that high? Do their BIOS' offer settings that high? What justifies the huge price difference between the neo-v and the platinum? surely it cant be just the gigabit lan and firewall...
Researching the overclocking of semprons and I can only find people using the 250gb, nobody seems to be reporting any success with the 250.
My second concern is the fact that I'm using a SATA drive. Will these boards give me difficulty overclocking that high because of my drive? Again, all successful overclocks I can find are either using IDE drives or do not say...
Any help is greatly greatly appreciated 🙂
