OK,
I just wanted to play a DVD. But when I put the DVD in there, there's no sound. I can play a normal Audio CD, Games or whatever, and it works. But when I try to play a DVD, no sound. It's a Duron 850, MSI K7 Pro2a, 256MB RAM, Creative 128 PCI, 12x Pioneer DVD, Asus V7700 and the Asus DVD Player. I also tried to set the sound from "Waveoutput" to "DirectSound" but it didn't work.

Thanx for any help

PS: I'm trying to watch the DVD on a TV

Yep, I tried it to hook the sound up through the TV. It actually worked when I wanted to playback some MP3s, it's just with DVDs, the sound doesn't work.

When you're not using the TV and playing a DVD on the computer, you get the sound over the speakers?

How are you connected to the TV?

Yes, the sound works fine. As I stated, I can listen to MP3s, to Audio-CDs, just everything. I connected through the S-VHS input on the TV. The Asus V7700 Deluxe has an S-VHS out, so I think that's the best connection.

yes but you'll only get sound out thru your pc speakers & not your tv as you're only supplying the tv with video input!

I connected the sound first to my TV, it has Cinch-Plugs for the sound. Then I thought it maybe something like a copy protection, so I hooked it up to my hi-fi system, but it still didn't work. As I said twice before: I could listen to MP3s and listen to Audio CDs ;)

What program are you using to play the DVD's?
I did some experimenting with my DVD player. When I mute the player, my wave/direct sound/mp3 stays un-muted in play control. When I mute wave/direct sound/mp3 in play control, the DVD sound stops, but the button in the DVD player remains un-'pushed'.
Could it be your program be setting itself to mute? Otherwise, I dunno. It's odd that it doesn't play on the tv. ]

edit: How are you connected sound-wise from the computer to the TV?

Well I hooked the sound up to my hi-fi... couldn't it be something like a copy-protection?

It doesn't sound like copy protection since you have a good picture. Please explain again how your sound is hooked up. Most video cards only send video signals out to the TV, you'd still have to use your computer speakers for sound. You could run a 'line out' to your receiver/TV to get sound there as well. Also make sure your speakers are not muted and the volume on the DVD software is set at high.

OK, for about the 3rd time. I can playback MP3s thru the TV, Audio CDs, just not DVDs. So the sound should be hooked up correctly, right? It's from the sound card connected to the TV OR the hi-fi. Thru Cinch-connectors. If you have other questions, just ask ;)

On my ATI card when I use TV out, there is a connector to connect sound from the ATI card to the line in on the sound card. Is there something like this on your card? The out cable on the ATI card has a composite, S-video, and audio connector.

Only with digital out? That would be weird IMO, cuz as I said, every other sound works fine...

ISASlot:
Nope, there's no such connector on the video card IIRC, but I'll take a look.

That's just very very weeeeiiiird.

Thanx for all replies
