i've had my 2005fpw since around november. i guess i was one of the early adopters without any major problems. if i had to do it again? i'd still get the widescreen over the standard ratio.

btw, i'm running a hopped up geforce3 and gaming is still good.

I love it. Nice and clear. A friend at work has a 20" LCD and I prefer this to it. I'm not 100% sure on your vid card. It just had to support 1680x 1050. I'm running of an ATI X300 PCI-Express card (new Dell). It *should* work just fine.
I believe my 2nd system (which will be running this new LCD) has the exact same card. Only, i couldn't find that resolution in my ATI applet. Hmmmm...

Otherwise, sounds like the consensus is widescreen. 😀

So you lose only 80 pixels in width, and gain 150 in height, and you get 11% more pixels with a normal LCD.
That's what I would pick.

Some people don't care. I like the widescreen format better than a 4:3.

Even as an engineer that should care about more pixels I don't. Widescreen for me please!

Small is a relative term. 🙂

Calling a 20" widescreen LCD small is damned nerdy. 🙂

I just ordered the 2005FPW. My friend has this monitor and HL2 looks absolutely amazing on it. Add the fact that most new games including WoW have support for widescreen and that sold me.

I have to agree.. HL2 is so awesome at 1680x1050.

ew 🙁

guess its the 23" widescreen for me.. sometimes 😀

Just ordered the 2005FPW. I'm buying it because it uses a better panel, mainly. Someone in the thread mentioned it doesn't use a power brick, which is cool.

Anyone want to recommend a cheap DVI card for me to run this thing with? I don't game at all so I don't need anything powerful.

yea the extra few pixels are nothin since u lose ability to play games ws. and well, the pixel loss from playing movies just isin't cool on a normal screen.

Yeah, those 80 pixels are gonna make a huge difference
1050x1680 vs 1000x1600 on widescreen movies. Very little advantage for WS
1050x1400 vs 1200x1600 on 4:3 format videos. A big advantage for nonWS
As a general purpose monitor, non-ws is better.

wider IS better

That is personal preference.

I wish the local Dell kiosks had both models on display so we can choose with our own eyes.

Goto CUSA and check out the 20" Apple Cinema Display. Very similar if not the same panel.
