Situation: bought a new 120gb to replace my bro's dead 20gb wd. I installed Windows XP and all the apps/drivers the pc needed. Computer worked fine all night. This morning when I decided to close up the tower and reconnect the zip drive (I had the zip drive disconnected, didn't think it would matter), I get an error message saying "error loading OS".

WTf?

I tried reformating(quick) with the WinXP cd and still no luck. Right now I'm trying the slower reformat option.

Any ideas fellas? 🙂

**Update: drive works fine in another comp. Abit BE6-II, IDE channel 1 will not detect any drive at all (and it was working fine a few minutes ago), IDE channel 0 works. Promise onboard IDE card detects the HD, but see's only 40gb. God I h8t these early Abit boards.🙁

Possible there was a disc in the drive?... A zip works just like a floppy drive doesn't it?.. If so, it probably hit the zip first before the hdd..
-Kinda stupid guess, but it happens.

Did you try unplugging the zip before reformatting? </obvious>

... and checking the boot order / for a non-OS zip cart like Ka0t1x suggested? </less_obvious>

Check the mobo's boot order, too. If you need help, post what mobo it is... I've got the manuals for a few of the popular models in .PDF format here 🙂

Abit BE6 II.

And yes the Zip drive (no disc was in the drive) was disconnected from the IDE cable, the only thing it had connected was the molex power connector. The boot order is correct too btw.

Any other ideas?🙂
