I'm building a house and would like to run network cable throughout and just found out that I'll need to do it in about a week. Has anyone had any experience w/ this? compgeeks.com I need to order it tonite to hopefully get it in time. Thanks for quick responses!

CAT5e is CAT5e. Any should do. You may even be better off going to your local hardware store (Home Depot, Lowe's, Etc...)

Although, that's a pretty sweet deal...with the testing equipment..

1000 ft of cat5e is $55 at Home Depot if you are in a real hurry.
I take it you just need to get the cable in the walls. You can use the plastic wall boxes with the "wings" they sell at Home depot and place them any where in the dry wall you want. They don't need to be on a stud.

Leave at least 5 feet extra coming out of the wall.
Trust me.

Put more in the wall than you think you will need. Out-lets etc. In other words, over build it.

Get a good crimper...

It's a hot deal IMHO. I bought (6) of those kits and it works great!

Thanks for the replies--I'll probably go ahead and order it and buy a roll @ home depot if it hasn't arrived in time.

If I were building a house, I would have jacks in the wall plates, not cable running through a hole.

I'm hoping to do this if I have time as I'm also wiring speaker cable.

You can get combo wall plates that have RJ45, Phone, Cable and speaker at an electronic store, this way you'll never have to worry about one or the other.
I didn't have time to do it to my house when I built it. But wish I would have.
Also make sure you put your phone connections on a bus strip in the basement instead of series connecting them. This way if you have trouble with one you can replace it and all others will be acvtive, the other way if one goes all connections after the one that goes will be dead. Take it from experience.

Another thing to really think about is getting a Main GFI installed in you house electrical service at the main panel, this way you'll never have to worry about your electronic stuff and water shock, as your whole house will be protected.
