quick ebay question

I sold my 6600gt on ebay and the buyer who bought it paid with paypal. His address is not confirmed, and looks like it ships to an address with a suite # in it. His feedback rating is only 8, and first transaction was done back in 2001 and his most recent was made back in Aug. 2005. Does this sound bad? I have only sold a few things on ebay, so I am not sure what sends up the flags for a scam. Thanks


Update: I emailed him and he said that he added that address to his paypal account, and said it was a work address where someone will be to recieve it. The paypal transaction says it is still unconfirmed, but that was probably before he changed it. Should I have him resend payment? Other comments?

Update 2: I went through and did a "mock" payment to him and it says he is unverified, but told me he thought he got it straightened out. Also, he has two different email addresses which isn't uncommon, but one is a hotmail and the other is yahoo. I dont know what to do and am I out of line for asking him for all of this?
 
How does a confirmed address 'protect' the seller? The OP said he/she has already been paid. Just get a confirmation receipt from the post office to prove the package reached it's destination.

Obviously you've never dealt with Paypal.
 
Comfirmed Addresses doesn't always protect the buyer either. If the seller is new you have no protection from paypal regardless if the address is comfirmed.

Yeah whenever an unconfirmed address payed for it, I just ask them to confirm/resend payment & everyone has obliged thus far.
 
You can set your settings in paypal to automatically reject any unconfirmed payment. This is the best way since you don't have to have your blood boil receiving an unconfirmed payment (i.e. scammer).

I don't get why it is bad business to ship to an unconfirmed address once payment has been made?

Because if the payment's address is unconfirmed then you as the seller are not protected against fraud. In other words PayPal money is not real money. Even though PayPal says their money is real.
I have shipped quite a few things on eBay and I ship to confirmed and uncomfirmed addresses all the time.
I still fear a bad transaction, because I know PayPal has one of the worst fraud protection for this kind of business. They don't protect the seller good enough again fraud.
In your case I would go ahead and ship it to the guy, because there is a low chance of something going wrong.
eBay and PayPal are one company and all they care about is the fees you pay to them. They don't care much about fraud, because if they get deeply involved it costs them some pocket change they really want to keep for themselves.
Plus they have some really sketchy policies that hardly make you feel secure.

Edit: If you really are concerned go ahead and try to get him to confirm his address. I have shipped to a business address several times and so for no problems.
My eBay feedback is 400+ and there are a few people that don't leave feedback so that means the number could be higher.
In the couple years on eBay I never had a case where I lost money due to a case like this. The only time I lost money on eBay were from dead beat bidders and 1 time where the seller never shipped the graphic card. PayPal only returned me $40 or so out of the $300+ I sent. PayPal is such a worthless company in my opinion...

O yea don't piss off the buyer or he might leave you a negative feedback. eBay's feedback system is a joke as almost any feedback is permanent, even those from dead beat bidders/non paying bidders.
 
You need to read up on paypal's protection policies. An address is only confirmed if it matches a credit card account linked to paypal. So unless the guy's work address is on his credit card and that card is registered with paypal, it will not be confirmed. There are other ways to get a confirmed address actually but it entails faxing a lot of junk to PP and waiting forever. Note that you have to ship to a confirmed address to be eligible for paypal's seller protection. Do not ship anything of value to an unconfirmed address.

If you aren't comfortable, tell him to send a money order. Or just don't sell it to him and take the negative. Better than getting ripped off.
 
I'm sure you aren't required by Ebay or Paypal to ship an item to an unconfirmed address whether you explicitly said so in your auction or not.

You should be within your rights to insist he straighten out his Paypal issues until he can pay you from an account with a confirmed address. If he won't you should be able to file an non-paying buyer claim with E-Bay.

On the other hand, maybe you want to take your chances and get the deal over with; if you decide to do this you have to decide for yourself if the convenience of accepting things as they are is worth the risk of getting ripped off, even if that risk might be small.
 
It was only like $110, so its not like I will go broke over it, but also don't want to be taken for a ride. I really don't mind shipping to the work address, but he is not verified (What exactly does that mean anyway?). I will probably go ahead and ship it to him.
 
Refund the Paypal payment and request payment with a postal money order. When you ship, require a signature from the buyer ONLY. If he's not there when it arrives, he will need to go to the Post Office and get it. That way you won't get screwed if he decides to file a claim on Paypal after you ship.
 
If you ship to an uncomfirmed address and the guy is a scammer, you're definitely screwed. All he does is file Item Not Received, Paypal sees you didn't deliver to his address, and you automatically LOSE.

If you ship to a confirmed address and the guy is a scammer, you're only probably screwed. heh heh
