Quick eBay question: Ebay users: How do I lower my maximum bid on an item?

Searched through eBay's help area but couldn't find an answer. I don't mind winning the item at the price it's currently at, but I'd like to lower the amount I'm willing to go to up by $10. Is there a form somewhere to let me do this?

You can withdraw your bid and bid again, but it makes you look really bad.

yup, that seems to be the only way....you know that little thing they say after you bid and you have to confirm it "this is a final bid, by hitting accept you state that you are willing to pay this amount"....well SURPRISE, they actually mean it!

Oh, I don't mind winning the auction at the current price, or even going up to the max I'm now reconsidering - it won't be the end of me. It's just a little weird that I'm stuck to a max bid amount that the seller may never know about and is not yet affecting the auction.

One of the many benifits to using a service like AuctionStealer - you can change your bid amount up until the time it is placed.

Yes, you can. I do it all the time. You can edit your bid up until it is placed, in the case of the free AuctionStealer accounts, that is 10 seconds before the auction closes.

yep..retracting is the only way.

however, most auctions will have a snipe at the end of it, so if you really want it, keep the high bid.

Place another bid with the lower max. That should work. It's been a while since I used ebay though

Terry, I realize what you are trying to say, but it is irrelevant in this case. The OP is using ebay's proxy bidding and he set a maximum. You cannot go back (easily at least). What you are talking about is setting a snipe bid limit (at a 3rd party service). Of course you can change it after you place it. They don't register your bid with eBay til the auction nearly closes. Apples to oranges.

The point is: for future reference, you can use one of these services to avoid this kind of problem.

The point is: for future reference, you can use one of these services to avoid this kind of problem.
